Building Business Alliances at Both Schools!

Much progress with building our Business Alliance at both schools with talented stakeholders in our community! Very grateful for the opportunity to get to know professionals who want to give back by getting involved and volunteering! Had our first BA meeting today at Centennial Campus and had 8 businesses from our NC State Centennial Campus, the Synergy in the room was amazing...all were on board with supporting our school in many ways...as Guest Speakers and possibly as tutor/mentors! We have an Hour of Code coming up and lining up volunteers for that as well. Following our meeting some stayed for a tour of our school.

Tomorrow is our second Business Alliance meeting at Carroll Leadership in Technology Magnet Middle School and we have some new members joining us and we are very grateful to have them. We are planning our College and Career Fair for Friday, March 10th and have many volunteers lined up!

Yesterday after school at Centennial we had an Interest meeting for any student who wanted to learn more about FBLA, Future Business Leaders of America and because we had three students stay who are very interested, we are reopening a Chapter at our school.  This will be my first time to be an Advisor to a Club and I am getting lots of input on how to navigate this new endeavor. There will be a competition in Greensboro we plan to go to in the Spring...not sure if we will be watching or participating, but from the excitement of our bright eyed students, I have a feeling we will be competing!

Great Xplorations Career Fair

This week's exciting news was the Great Expectations Career Fair at the McKimmon Center at NC State! Saw a lot of my 8th graders from last year who were participating. There were 4 main rooms for students to rotate to and have hands on learning. In one room, Guess My Gigg...students asked questions until they figured out what Career they had! Nate Adams was a Guest Speaker, owns a unique food truck, Chirba Chirba Dumpling in American, but raised in Taiwan, so he speaks fluent Chinese! The students never guessed his Gigg, but had fun trying! Nate gave me his info & may come and speak to our Chinese classes at Carroll.  The next Guest Speaker was Donald McCoy, STEM Consultant, who said he would be happy to speak to our students as well! In another room, hundreds of students rotated into small groups of 3 students with a Volunteer from the business community who conducted mock interviews and gave them tips on how to interview better! Then they had a panel of experts, and one was Ken Smith, News Anchor from WRAL who answered many good questions and have tons of expert advice.  In another room, Representatives from each Branch of Military Service helped students with Team Building activities using yarn, played telephone to show good listening skills are important... I was also able to do some Networking myself for both of my schools for potential speakers for our Career Fairs, in classes, etc.
